Why we charge

Most family apps are free, and most of them make their money somewhere you can’t see. Usually that’s advertising, or selling what they learn about you to people who want to sell to parents.

We believe your private data should stay private. So we charge a small monthly fee instead. It means we never sell your information, never show you an ad, and don’t have to grow at any cost to satisfy investors. We’re a small independent company, not a venture-backed one. Venture funding is all or nothing: grow fast or disappear. Free apps that can’t cover their costs get shut down, sold, or slowly stop working. We’d like Hermo to still be running when your kids leave school, so we make sure every account covers its own costs.

If Hermo isn’t worth £4 a month to you (under a pound a week), that’s a fair answer and the free plan is yours for as long as you want it.
