Term dates the council doesn’t have
An independent school’s year is its own: terms that start and end a week or more away from the state calendar, longer breaks, and INSET or exeat days no council list carries. The only correct source is the school itself — so that is the one we use. We read each school’s published calendar, label every date with where it came from, and re-check so changes and next year’s dates arrive on their own.

Questions parents ask
Why aren't independent school term dates on the council website?
Independent schools set their own term dates and publish them themselves — they do not follow the local authority calendar at all. Their year is usually structured differently too: longer holidays, exeat weekends at boarding schools, and terms that differ from the council's by a week or more. The council calendar is not a rough approximation of an independent school's dates; it is a different calendar entirely.
Where do these dates come from?
From each school's own published calendar — the one source there is for an independent school. We read the school's website, check the dates, and re-check regularly so corrections and next year's dates arrive on their own. Every date on every school page is labelled with its source.
My child's school isn't listed - can you add it?
We cover 717 independent schools so far and are adding more all the time. Use the school finder to look your school up: if we have its dates you can subscribe straight away, and if we don't yet, subscribing tells us to go and read the school's own published calendar - the dates then land in your calendar by themselves.
Will the calendar update by itself?
Yes. It is a live subscription rather than a one-off copy: your calendar re-checks it automatically, so next year's dates appear on their own and any change the school publishes reaches you the same way. It is free, and you can unsubscribe in one click.
